Performative Arts of Japan: Butoh

“Camaleón Arte Escénico” Magazine -

Faculty of Performing Arts UANL

September - 2025

Link To The Research Article

Description

This work explores the deep connection between performing arts and the human experience, transcending cultural boundaries. The study focuses on Butoh, a contemporary Japanese dance that, despite its break from tradition, draws from Japan's ancestral cosmologies and values.

The article delves into Japan's unique identity as a hybrid nation, influenced by Confucianism and Shintoism, which emphasize balance and the rejection of "darkness." In contrast, Butoh emerges as a manifestation that doesn't ignore the complexity of the human condition. It addresses themes such as colonialism, war, destruction, eroticism, despair, pain, and the redefinition of masculinities. This article illustrates how Butoh, paradoxically, in its search for liberation, extracts essential concepts from Japanese folklore, establishing itself as a distinctive, intense, and introspective form of modern folklore.

Cultural and Historical Perspectives: Ancient Civilizations and Diverse Cosmogonies in Japanese Anime and Entertainment Media

“Aititas” Research Peer Review Magazine - UANL

July - 2025

Link To The Research Article

Description

This article explores how ancient civilizations and animistic cosmogonies have influenced Japanese anime and entertainment media. Over the years, these productions have transcended their local origins to become global phenomena, blending traditional elements with experimental narratives. Anime titles like “Sailor Moon”, “Magic Knight Rayearth”, and “Demon Slayer”, video games such as “Final Fantasy” and “Zelda: Breath of the Wild”, and animated films like “Princess Mononoke” by Studio Ghibli, among others, not only present universal themes but are also deeply rooted in Japan’s cultural traditions, including Animism, Shintoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. These philosophies and beliefs continue shaping modern storytelling in anime and video games. Additionally, the article examines the connections between the cosmogonies of the Ainu, the Emishi and the Yamato, all of which share an animistic and spiritual view of nature. By linking these elements to contemporary narratives, the article highlights the enduring influence of Japan’s ancestral traditions on global culture and the role of Japanese entertainment in preserving and perpetuating these ancient cosmogonic legacies.

Artificial Intelligence as a Means of Reconnection to Understand Current Hypermodern Art Representations

Book "Creative Machines" - UANL - UAdeC

July - 2024

Link To The Research Article

Description

My central argument, presented in "Artificial Intelligence as a Means of Reconnection to Understand Current Hypermodern Art Representations," involves the decontextualization of visual culture and the society that hosts it. This decontextualization, I argue, leads to the lack of meaning that younger generations are currently facing.

Based on this observation, I believe that "Artificial Intelligence as a Means of Reconnection to Understand Current Hypermodern Art Representations becomes more pertinent." This highlights how the changes of the last few decades have generated a society with more palpable diversity compared to previous generations.

I recognize AI as a useful tool for research, but simultaneously, I see it as an instrument that can help build referential bridges with these new generations.
